Indian Air Force Afcat 01 2017 – Notification

Indian Air Force has just advertised a notification for Afcat 01 2017 inviting applications for the commissioned officer posts in Flying Branch, Technical Branch and Ground Duties Branch for a batch to be started in January 2018.


(1) Important Dates for Afcat 01 2017:

Starting Date for Submission of Online Application – 3rd December 2016
Last Date for Submission of Online Application – 29th December 2016

(2) Eligibility Criteria for Afcat 01 2017:

Flying Branch:
A candidate should possess a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent and have passed Maths & Physics at 10+2 level or BE / B Tech degree (Four year course) or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with minimum 60% marks or equivalent.
Technical Branch:
Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) {AE(L)} – Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year degree graduation/integrated post- graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks.
Aeronautical  Engineer (Mechanical)  {AE (M)} – Candidates with minimum 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four year degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/Technology from recognised University or cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India by actual studies with a minimum of 60% marks
Ground Duties Branch:
Administration – Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Logistics – Graduate Degree (Minimum three year degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with 60% marks or equivalent or cleared section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Accounts – B. Com. degree (Minimum three year degree course) from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
Education – MBA / MCA or MA / M Sc degree in English / Physics / Mathematics / Chemistry / Statistics / International relations / International studies / Defence studies / Psychology / Computer Science / IT /Management / Mass Communication / Journalism / Public Relation with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate all paper put together in Post Graduation (Minimum two year programme) and 60% marks in graduation (both recognised by UGC / Competent Accreditation Authority).

(3) Age Limit for Afcat 01 2017:

  • Flying Branch – Age: 20 to 24 years as on 01 Jan 2018 i.e. Born between 02 Jan 1994 to 01 Jan 1998 (both dates inclusive). (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and Current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years i.e. born between 02 Jan 1992 to 01 Jan 1998 (both dates inclusive).
  • Technical Branch– Age: 20 to 26 years as on 01 Jan 2018 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1992 to 01 Jan 1998 (both dates inclusive).
  • GDOC– Age: 20 to 26 years as on 01 Jan 2018 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1992 to 01 Jan 1998 (both dates inclusive).

(4) Posts Description :

Commissioned Officers
Flying Branch (203/18F/Short Service Commission/Men & Women )
Ground Duty (Technical) 202/18T/Permanent Commission/ Men and 202/18T/ Short Service Commission/Men & Women
Ground Duty (Nontechnical) 202/18G/ Permanent Commission/Men and 202/18G/ Short Service Commission/Men & Women

(5) Salary:

The candidates will be given a stipend of Rs. 21,000/- p.m.(Rs 15,600/-  as  pay  in  Pay  Band  plus  Grade  Pay  of  Rs.5,400/-).  On  completion  of  training  they will be commissioned in the rank of Flying Officer and is entitled to pay as admissible to the rank.
Defined below is the detailed salary structure of the Indian Air Force only differing in allowances according to the nature of their duties.
Promotions from Flying Officer to Wing Commander are achieved on timely basis. The salary structure is defined below:

(6) Selection Procedure for Afcat 2017:

Candidates will first be shortlisted on the basis of the objective written examination and then selected candidates will be called for the SSB (Service Selecion Board) round for further testing.
Candidates will be selected by SSB (Service Selection Board) in two stages.
i. Screening Test comprises of intelligence test, Picture Perception and Discussion test.
ii. Interview and conference comprises of Psychological testing, Group testing, Interview and Medical Examination.
